Browse these pages to discover all the exciting things we have in store for you!
To give you some browsing hints:
The Laboratoium is where the hands-on classes and demonstrations and exhibits will be, with crafters, scientists, scholars, and adventurers holding forth in panels and classes. You can learn to buld a Curiosity Cabinet, make a steampunk costume from thrift store finds, polish and display gemstones, build a small blimp, work a steam engine, and more. This section will be like a steampunk Maker’s Fair and Collegium.
The Scriptorium is where the authors will be discussing writing and publishing steampunk, signing their books, reading excerpts, and offering their books for sale.
The Art Gallery is where the 2D and 3D artists will be displaying their skills and talent. The Charity Auction items will be here for viewing and pre-bidding prior to the actual auction. There will be panels/classes on how to do these artistic pieces, and attendees will be able meet their favorite attending artists and buy their art.
The Spectacularium is where the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held, the Masquerade, the Charity Auction, dance classes for the Gizmos and Gadgets Dance, all manner of steampunk performers and filkers, and the Gizmos and Gadgets Dance.
The Mysterium is the gaming room, not just RPGs and LARP, but a variety of sports and games popular during the Steampunk Era: Baccarat, Piquet, Curling, Graces, Marbles, Dominoes, kite-making, string games, Bezique (Chinese and pinochle versions), Shut the Box, Backgammon, Crowns and Anchors, Chess, Draughts, Darts, Cribbage, Faro, Loo, Whist, Hazard, and assorted Parlor Games (The Minister’s Cat, Forfeits, Feathers, Charades…).
The Promenade is a social area where everyone can go to See and Be Seen. There will be tables for airships, clubs, and organizations to advertize and recruit, chairs for sitting, backdrops for photo-ops, and an area where people may stroll, meet, and greet. It will be located near:
The Tea Parlour, where people can acquire snacks and beverages, including tea and coffee.
And no Con would be fun without a Mercantile, where people can acquire souvenirs, costume pieces, gadgets, gizmos, and parts. Some of the finest vendors will be there!
Some of the panels/classes we’ll be offering will have lab or supply fees which allow the students to make and take something from the class. You must pre-register for these classes so there will be enough supplies on hand if you want to make and keep the item. We are offering the opportunity to audit these classes, which means you can attend them, but not make and keep the item demonstrated in the class (making your own goggles, for example, or decorating a top hat, or making a stylus for your Blackberry, or making steampunk jewelry or small 3D sculptures, or steampunking your cell phone…).
Students pre-registered for workshops will receive their class supplies in their registration packets.
All students who complete 10 credit hours (4 hours must be workshops with supplies) will receive a Freshman pin and a Rising Sophomore certificate enabling them to take Sophomore level classes.
Students who complete the classes they sign up for will receive a Completion Certificate – and they can take more than one OctopodiCon to complete the Freshman Level.
We will be taking pre-registrations until March 1, 2012 for $25.00. Everyone who pre-registers will receive a special code emailed to them that gives them a discount if they choose to enroll in any of the make-and-take classes that have a lab or supply fee (those are still to be determined). Prices will go up incrementally as we get closer to OctopodiCon.
